Drawing floor plans in 2D — rooms, doors and windows
Video guide
With the drawing tool you can create floor plans of rooms, doors and windows right in the browser. The drawing is automatically converted to a 3D model with measurements, area and material requirements.
How to start
Tap the «Tegne» (Draw) button in the toolbar at the top to enter drawing mode. You can draw from a blank page, or upload an image of an existing floor plan (PNG or JPG) as a background.
Step 1: Calibrate the scale
Before you start drawing rooms, set the correct scale. Choose «Kalibrer» (Calibrate) (ruler icon, or press C), and:
- Click two points on the floor plan where you know the distance — for example a wall you've measured to 5 metres
- Enter the distance in the dialog that appears
All measurements are calculated from this calibration, so do it before you draw the rooms.
Step 2: Draw rooms
Use «Tegn rom» (Draw room) (press P) or «Rektangel» (Rectangle) (press R) to draw the room outline:
- Click to place points around the room
- The points snap to existing walls so the rooms align automatically
- Close the polygon by clicking near the start point or press Enter
- New rooms automatically get their own colour and name (Room 1, Room 2, …)
Tip: Draw the lines in the middle of the wall, not along the edge. Adjacent rooms should share wall points so the 3D model gets the correct walls between rooms.
Step 3: Place doors, windows and openings
Switch to «Dør» (Door) (D), «Vindu» (Window) (W) or «Åpning» (Opening) (O), and:
- Click on the wall where the opening starts
- Click again where it ends
Width and height can be adjusted afterwards in the right panel.
See the rooms in 3D
When the drawing is ready, tap the 3D view at the bottom of the main window. The rooms are automatically turned into a 3D model with:
- Room volumes (default height 2400 mm — adjustable)
- Doors (2100 mm) and windows (1200 mm tall, 900 mm sill height) in the correct proportions
- Correct wall junctions between adjacent rooms
- Areas, wall lengths and measurements ready for the report
